Learning Etsy...

So You Want To Learn How To Sell on Etsy

Do you make something that is really creative or unique? Do you love to craft in your spare time? Do you want to make an extra income from home?

Well... You should look into selling on Etsy.

Now, I have just gotten started selling on Etsy. I am not getting rich by no means (not yet anyways:) ) I do see the potential in the platform though. Etsy is made up of 30 million like minded artisans, that love crafting and vintage items.  The community teams they have set up are amazing! I have learned so many new things, I couldn't possibly put it all in one blog. They support each other and help each other with their own journey.

Here are some tips I have put together to get you going in the right direction
  1. Have a plan. Any business needs to have an effective business plan. This does not need to be an elaborate 25 page plan. Just a plan. What are you going to sell? How are you going to sell it? Where do you want to be at in one month? This will strengthen your chances for success.
  2. A picture speaks a 1000 words. This is especially true on Etsy. I found that out later. You need to be thinking Better Homes and Gardens, not white background (like on eBay). The prettier the picture the more views and favorites.
  3. Pricing. You need to know your products and know how to price them. Typically, MATERIALS+LABOR+EXPENSES+PROFIT=WHOLESALE  WHOLESALE X 2= RETAIL.
  4. Build your Brand. It is important to build a brand for your products. Are you making clothing? Maybe you sell scarfs and accessories? Are you making home decor items? It is important to figure out your brand and stay within that category to build a fan base. This way your customers will know where to go when they are looking for a specific product.
  5. Know your market. Who are you selling to? Males, Females, What age? This will help you target your product and result in more sales.
